Lifeflight Golf Event Helps the Flight Crew See Through the Darkness of Maine’s Rural Landscape

Release Date: 7/23/2015 12:00:00 AM

Dozens of golfers converged on the course at Martindale Country Club in Auburn for LifeFlight’s 7thannual golf scramble earlier this summer. The annual event raises money to purchase essential equipment to help LifeFlight provide world-class critical care transport across the entire state.

Funds raised at this year’s event will help purchase night vision goggles for LifeFlight’s soon-to-be-purchased third helicopter, which the organization hopes to put into service by next summer. With nearly half of all LifeFlight’s missions taking place after dark, night vision goggles are imperative to ensure every flight is as safe and reliable as possible.

One LifeFlight pilot puts it this way, “Flying from Bangor to Fort Kent at night is like flying over the dark ocean. There are no points of reference, very few house lights and no distinguishing features. Night vision goggles are an important tool to help us make our way safely across Maine’s rural landscape.”

The scramble was sponsored by AgustaWestland, as well as Nurse Anesthesia of MaineWalmart and Spectrum Aeromed.

Next year’s event is scheduled for Monday, June 27 at Martindale Country Club in Auburn. Register today!
